The NIV uses the thought for thought theory, while the NASB is more word for word. Both are about the same as far as my definition of accuracy goes, but the NASB is more technically accurate from a word for word standpoint. But even when you pick one theory or the other, there is still some overlap.   HarperCollins' presentation of the NIV Bible, intended to convey more scriptural accuracy, has led to claims the publisher "removed 45 complete verses.".

The New International Version (NIV), that new age Bible that softie church people love, is on the ropes today. World Magazine (P.O. Box , Asheville, NC ) published an article entitled, "Femme Fatale: The Feminist Seduction of the Evangelical Church," in their issue which exposed the NIV's attempt to publish a new American.   When an author quotes a Bible passage in a book and notes it as coming from the NIV, it will probably be the NIV. New International Version - Translation method The translation of each book of the Bible was assigned to a team of scholars, and the work was thoroughly reviewed and revised at various stages by three separate committees.

With its decades-long legacy of helping readers grasp the Bible’s meaning, the NIV Study Bible embodies the mission of the NIV translation to be an accurate, readable, and clear guide into Scripture. Specifically designed to expand upon the NIV, the NIV Study Bible ’s editorial team crafts that same accuracy and clarity into every study note. The New International Version (NIV) is the world’s bestselling modern-English Bible translation—accurate, readable, and clear, yet rich with the detail found in the original languages. The NIV is the result of over 50 years of work by the Committee on Bible Translation, who oversee the efforts of many contributing scholars.

The first edition of the NIV Bible took more than a decade to translate. And even though the current edition is 95% the same as it was before, the NIV translators spent six years going over every revision.

Accuracy means safeguarding the translation. The NIV is also the most popular translation by far, over million sold world wide and, is translated into 14 different languages.

It is a word-for-word, and thought-for-thought rendering and, as Cecil said above, it is over 96% totally accurate and the disputed parts (N.

Wright and others) point to word choices rather than inaccuracies. Description of the book "The Accuracy of the Niv": In this redesigned edition, the head of the New International Version translation project answers questions about the NIV's handling of the original author deals on a case-by-case basis with fifty Old Testament and one hundred New Testament passages, explaining questioned translations and defending the committee's word.

This article considers the accuracy of the New International Version (NIV). The NIV is reviewed because it is (1) the top-selling Bible today; (2) widely endorsed by modern “scholars” as being highly accurate; and (3) often the default version used in search engines and Scripture look-up sites.

They have weighed the significance of the lexical and grammatical details of the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. At the same time, they have striven for more than a word-for-word translation.

It was designed to be easy-to-read-and-understand for the international reader of English who might have learned English in a different country than the US or UK, or might have learned English as a second language. The New International Version (NIV) is a completely original translation of the Bible developed by more than one hundred scholars working from the best available Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts.
